What you can expect if you see Jim for counseling:
Jim engages with his clients in a fairly informal manner and attempts to make clients comfortable with counseling by "demystifying" the process as simply helping people change. Not all change is difficult, he would say, and even coming into counseling represents a willingness to change. He's an optimist who takes a fairly active role in the counseling process.
Jim's Professional Orientation:
Jim is primarily cognitive-behaviorist in his approach to counseling. The influences of noted clinicians like Carl Rogers, Albert Ellis and Erik Erickson were particularly important to Jim's approach. In the 90's, Jim incorporated the popular solution-focused approaches to his current orientation to helping people change. Consequently, he tends to see clients for a shorter duration; however, some clients choose to continue for maintenance counseling.
Problems with which Jim's clients have the most success overcoming with his help:
Substance abuse/addiction including family members who are impacted; depression; anxiety; situational adjustment difficulties; occupational concerns including stress management; and couples counseling.
Jim's schedule is 9:00 am - 5:00 pm on Tuesdays and Fridays, and 12:00 pm to 7:15 pm on Mondays and Thursdays. If you would like to speak to Jim more about his practice and approach to counseling, please call (919) 467-9995.
